Geckos, Newts and Lizards Coloring Pages

Lizards are some of the most fascinating and diverse reptiles in the world! With their scaly skin, long tails, and sharp claws, lizards are a favorite among animal lovers and herpetologists.

Lizards can be found all over the world, from the deserts of Australia to the rainforests of South America. They come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, from tiny chameleons to massive monitor lizards.

Chameleons are lizards. They belong to the family Chamaeleonidae and are well-known for their ability to change color, long, sticky tongues used for catching insects, and their zygodactylous feet (having toes arranged in pairs opposite each other). Chameleons are also distinctive for their independently mobile eyes and prehensile tails. They are found in a range of habitats, primarily in Africa, Madagascar, southern Europe, and parts of Asia.

Iguanas are lizards known for their robust size, distinctive spines running along their backs and tails, and their dewlaps, which are flaps of skin under their chins. They are primarily herbivorous and are found in a variety of habitats, including rainforests, deserts, and coastal areas, mainly in Central and South America and the Caribbean.

Geckos are lizards known for their unique adaptations, such as vocalizations (geckos are among the few lizards that can make noise), the ability to walk on vertical surfaces and ceilings due to specialized toe pads, and, in many species, the ability to regenerate their tails. Geckos are found in warm climates throughout the world and are diverse in size, color, and habitat preferences, with over 1,500 species identified.

Salamanders (not lizards)

Newts and axolotls are not lizards. Both newts and axolotls are amphibians, belonging to the order Urodela (also known as Caudata), which includes salamanders. Newts are a subgroup within the salamander family, known for their aquatic lifestyle during certain life stages. Axolotls are a type of salamander native to Mexico, famous for their ability to retain juvenile features throughout their adult life, a condition known as neoteny. Unlike lizards, which are reptiles with scaly skin and typically lay eggs on land, amphibians like newts and axolotls have moist, permeable skin and often have an aquatic phase in their life cycle.
