This was absolutely my experience as well. I’m appalled when anyone actually recommends Textbroker. It should be illegal to pay such insignificant rates for articles, not to mention how many ways they have to avoid paying more for high-quality work. Scripted.com is also pretty awful in certain ways, but they pay nearly 10 cents per word. There are so many other options besides Textbroker, and it should never be recommended even as a place to gain experience.

They pay as low as $1.89 per article (who lives on that?), they have constant evaluations that bump you up or down a level depending on how you fare — but evaluations that concentrate on the use of commas and nothing else. So you could have an error free article with superb grammar, but one comma in the wrong place will drop you down a level and cause you to be paid less.

I just walked away from them after nine years after they blocked my account because I am currently in Austria. When I asked for my account to be unblocked, they told me I needed to send them a copy of my American passport, a photo of myself holding my passport, information about where I was and all my travel dates. Because apparently Textbroker has the right to know what I’m doing with my life. All for $1.89 per article.

When I told them to close my account, I was also informed they would not be paying me the money they owe me as they “do not pay out for accounts that haven’t passed their security”. I have worked for them for NINE YEARS, have given them copies of my American passport numerous times and this is how they are treating me.

Avoid them like the plague, unless you want to work for a company that is this terrible with the people who write for them.
