This is great and all, but I have two issues. One, I live in an apartment complex so I can’t just have a yard sale. Secondly, it’s in the dead of winter and it’s brutally cold. Any other ideas? I’m about $1000 short this month on my rent and I need a way to make cash in 6 days!

You either have to wait for the next season, or you can simply hold one whenever you know there is going to a be a weekend with good weather. It doesn’t have to be yard sale “season” for it to be successful. And long as you get the word out, I think you will do good.

Good question, Gary. We actually didn’t do anything out of the ordinary (although I think it would’ve helped us make even more money if we had done more advertising).

We basically created a dozen or so signs using cardboard boxes and magic markers, then we went around and attached these onto wooden poles around our neighborhood. We put 2 on poles on the main streets where there is major traffic.

Now that I think about it, I think we should have put up some ads on Craigslist (a lot of yard sale hunters look on Craigslist to find yard sales).

Another thing would have been putting a post on Facebook and perhaps on local groups Facebook pages.

That said, we did good, and more importantly, we were able to get the cash we needed.
