Thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise April.

While researching for the post, I heard from a few people on Reddit (and other sites) that were in fact making money doing this. I wouldn’t say they were making a living doing it, but as a side hustle and a fun way to make a few bucks.

Thank you so much for also mentioning that to make any real money you need to be creating the furniture for the houses. That’s great to know.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience and knowledge. I am sure our readers will appreciate input from somebody who has been doing it for that many years.

I’d like to recommend a few corrections to your article though; almost none of the miniatures hobbies are cheap/inexpensive/free. Model trains are expensive and take up a huge amount of space, miniature gaming figurines are costly, and dollhouses are no different. Furniture created for these dollhouses can often cost EVEN MORE than the same piece ‘in real life size’. Miniature artists do not undercharge for their art.

Also, you mentioned being able to sell finished dollhouses as a way to make money and sadly this is very much NOT the case. Completed dollhouses are akin to a completed puzzle. No one buys a finished one. A finely finished dollhouse can be donated to a local library or a museum, but almost all dollhouse’s end life if either getting kicked to the curb after grandchildren have destroyed it, or if it was lucky, being sold off in pieces to be reincarnated as parts of new dollhouses. Please do not recommend creating dollhouses as a way to make an income. It is not possible to recoup money of all the parts of a completed dollhouse, not to mention the time it takes, if it is sold all together. I have been in the miniatures business for 8 years and have learned that the only place in it that you make any real money is creating the furniture for the houses.
