They will not allow you to use your gift card balance to pay for a Visa or Mastercard gift card.

If anybody reading this is given one for their birthday or any other occasion, remember not to activate or “redeem” the card if not planning to use it yourself. Once activated it’s essentially bonded to your identity and virtually impossible to trade or sell without taking a substantial loss on the given amount. I’ve had three deals fall through in just over a week once the other party realized that I had to do the ordering for them. I curse whoever dreamt up such an asinine method of “gifting”!

I tried Andrew’s idea (right above me) and it wouldn’t work for me. Any way to get more details from Andrew? :) please!

I’ve been out of work for more than a year due to Covid, rent due before the 5th of this month, single parent (with no child support), but was just given a $610 Amazon Gift Card! All I need is enough to pay utilities & car insurance…can’t believe I’m posting this at 5am trying to figure a way out!!

These are as good as debit cards and can be used anywhere. The best deal is the $100 MasterCard for $105.95 (basically a 6% fee).

Christopher, to my understanding, you can use an Amazon gift card at a Whole Food store. However, if Amazon PrimeNow is available in your area, you can order Whole Foods through Amazon PrimeNow, then use an Amazon gift card to pay for your order.

Hope this helps.

For the first one, I had to sell it twice – the guy must have been inebriated when he purchased it, as he paid $50 over the selling price. At that point, wasn’t sure this was going to work, Didn’t feel right taking that much when he purchased at like 2 am, probably at a bar.

After he realized he had to wait out eBay’s two-week period before I could send the gift card, he started freaking out, so I canceled the sale.

Second time around, I made the terms extremely clear that the buyer would have to wait two weeks (because of eBay’s policy), and she was pretty good and started getting antsy, but that sale was fine. I lost maybe $15.

eBay policy is that the seller cannot collect their payment for two weeks after the buyer received the item. That’s due to fraud, but they’re not taking into account buyer fraud!

So best way is to wait two weeks to send the gift card.

Annabell, you could either sell it on discount gift card sites or trade it using one of the methods in this post.
